Overview

The two day event will take place 27-28 March 2014, at the Cultural Centre "Hellenic Cosmos" in Athens.

The first day of the event will start with a closed roundtable meeting with the European Commission, in consultation with the experts from across Europe, who represent international institutions, institutional and private investment corporations, regulators, corporate governance practitioners, and academics, among others.

The second day of the event consists of high level presentations, panel discussions and three concurrent workshops. Two of the workshops are with the support of the Hellenic Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (acfe.gr).

The plenary session will open with a presentation of the roundtable results of the previous day. The panel discussion, Action Plan on EU Company Law and Corporate  Governance, adopted in 2012, is designed to enable further discussion on effective self-regulation that can result in long-term investment and sustainability.

The European Commission initiatives for corporate governance are concerned with:
  • encouraging shareholder engagement, enhancing transparency between companies and investors and facilitating cross-border  operations of European undertakings;
  • disseminating the principles and modes of self-regulation and;
  • heightening awareness of all involved in the business community.
Through the process of this conference, it is hoped that the delegates will develop a fuller understanding as to how corporate governance contributes to long-term investment.
