Dear Sirs,

I respond to your request about the status of possible negotiations and related timetable mentioned in the letters of the Athens Stock Exchange of 2 and 4 August to ADG. As previously announced in Alcan's Press release dated January 19th, 2004, Alcan has undertaken an evaluation of its controlling interest in AdG. As part of the process of exploring alternatives, Alcan has initiated discussions with certain parties about its continuing interest in AdG under the protection of confidentiality agreements. N o decision to engage into negotiations has been made by Alcan at this time. As for the rumours circulating in the Greek financial press, it is Alcan's corporate policy not to comment on rumours. Alcan will inform AdG and AdG?s shareholders of the outcome οf this evaluation.
