John Balafas is Deputy Director of Applications Management, Hardware & Software Management, Users' Technical Support and PKI-CA Services Sub-Division at Athens Exchange. He was born in May 1968. He graduated from Computer Engineering & Informatics Department, Polytechnic School of University of Patras and received his diploma of Engineering and Informatics in 1992, with excellent degree.
He worked as System and Network Engineer in Computer Technology Institute (CTI) from 1989 to 1997 and as a senior Network Engineer & Consultant in Network Management Center of University of Athens Network (ATHENAnet), from 1997 to 1998.
From 1998 has joint the Hellenic Exchanges group of Companies and worked as a Team Leader in several projects. He has substantial experience as a Project Technical Manager and Project Manager in projects pertinent to Capital Markets. He played a major role in the design, reorganization and implementation of Athens Exchange Trading Network (ATHEXnet) and Hellenic Exchanges Group Intranet Network (HELEXnet), during the period 1999 - 2002. During the same period, he was also the Project Manager of the ATHEXnet and HELEXnet Network Infrastructure upgrade project. Between 2008 - 2010 he was Head of Business Processes, Users' Support and Digital Certification Department at Athens Exchange.
His research activities focus on Protocol Engineering, Security and Protection in Information Systems & Networks, and Integrated Network Management. His is member of Technical Chamber of Greece.
He is married and has one daughter and one son.
