ΜΥΤΙLINEOS GROUP reinforced in the Energy Sector
Within the context of the Group's strategic goal of expanding in the area of energy production, both from renewable and thermal sources, Mytilineos S.A. announces the acquisition of 100% of the share capital of the company SPIDER ENERGY S.A.
SPIDER ΕNERGY S.A. is based in Ioannina and deals with the development, manufacture and exploitation of renewable energy sources, and especially wind parks and small hydroelectric power plants.
This is an important step towards the Group's expansion in the renewable energy sector, since as it adds to the Group's existing wind power capacity another 67MW of wind power (the Group's total surpassing 150MW), 7MW of small hydroelectric, as well as the right to obtain an additional 195 MW of wind parks, which are in the process of getting license. It is well known that the Group is proceeding to the construction of a co-production power plant of 340 MW at Agios Nikolaos of Viotia, which represents the first phase of the energy center of Agios Nikolaos, of a total 750 MW of electric power. Meanwhile, the Group reinforces its position in the trade of electric energy and pollutants with a procurement license of 310 MW.
As regards the acquisition, the Group's Energy General Manager, Mr. John Desipris, commented: "This acquisition marks a further reinforcement of the Group in the renewable energy sources sector, and balances in size the foreseen electric energy production of our thermal stations. The full plan of the Group's energy expansion shall be analyzed in detail at the Regular General Assembly of the shareholders on May 16th 2006".
