First quarter 2006 results for GEK and TERNA

According to the interim financial statements of 31/03/2006, prepared according to IFRS, financial results of GEK group are as follows: Sales of the Group reached 56.7 million euros, compared to 66.8 million euros in the equivalent period last year, reduced by 15%. The reduction in sales is attributed to the construction activity of subsidiary TERNA, the backlog of which has already increased significantly (standing at 500 million euros at the end of the first quarter), indicating the forthcoming increasing course of construction sales. The operating profit (EBITDA) of GEK group stood at Euro18.7 mi., increased by 14.3% compared to last year's period, aided by energy and real estate division. Net income after minorities of GEK group stood at Euro 8.1 mi. compared to Euro 5.1 mi. in the first quarter of 2005, increased by 59, 7%. EBITDA from energy activity reached c Euro7.2 mi. Energy contributes 38% of Group's EBITDA. In real estate, earnings before tax stood at Euro4,3 mi., due to the gradual maturity of Group's investments in this business field, in Greece and abroad. Cash stood at Euro110 mi. whilst net cash position of parent GEK S.A reached Euro 65.6 mi., reflecting the capacity to finance group's participation in the motorway concessions and energy developments. With regard to TERNA's consolidated results, sales reached Euro51.4 mi., decreased by 15.5%, whilst the increase of construction backlog supports expectations for increase in construction activity in the coming quarters. EBITDA fall 17% and net income before tax reached Euro7.5 mi., a 25.9% fall. Net income after minorities reached Euro4.4 mi., decreased by 48.6%, since last year's quarter deferred taxation positively affected results and did not occurred in the current period. Group's installed capacity in Energy field (wind and thermal) reaches 213 MW, whilst within the coming period the installed capacity in wind parks is expected to increase by 55 MW. It is worth mentioning that the Group is the largest private electricity producer in terms of installed capacity, in Greece.
