Intralot undertook the operation of Malta's State Lottery

INTRALOT, following an international tender and two years of negotiations, acquired the exclusive license to operate all State Lottery games in Malta for 8 years. Until now these games were operated by the Public Lotto Department of the Ministry of Finance, while INTRALOT is expected to begin operations in the country within 1H04.

For this project INTRALOT has established a new company, MALTCO LOTTERIES LIMITED, in which it owns a 73% stake, while the remaining 27% is owned by high profile local businessmen. The license for the exclusive operation of lottery games will cost 18.5m euros and the total investment (including the cost of the license) is expected to reach 30.0m euros for the project?s full development.

The Maltese Lottery market has annual revenues of 50m euros and currently Lotto type games and Instant Ticket games are offered. INTRALOT plans to introduce sports betting, KINO and other numerical games, all of which are expected to boost the company?s sales significantly. Moreover, the company plans to offer these games through alternative networks. INTRALOT will install an on-line network of CORONIS terminals connected to a central system, which will run INTRALOT?s LOTOS software.

INTRALOT?s contract in Malta is another important step for the company?s international expansion and the operation of lottery games, which denotes its competitive advantage over its global rivals.
