REGULATION (EU) 2016/1011 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 8 June 2016 on indices used as benchmarks in financial instruments and financial contracts or to measure the performance
of investment funds and amending Directives 2008/48/EC and 2014/17/EU and
Regulation (EU) No 596/2014 applies from 1 January 2018.
The European Benchmark Regulation (BMR), in conjunction with the its delegated and implementing Regulations, introduces a common framework to ensure the accuracy and integrity of indexes used as benchmarks in the European Union and applies to i) provision of benchmarks ii) contribution of input data to a benchmark iii) use of a benchmark within the European Union
The BMR ensures that benchmarks established and used in the European Union are robust, reliable, representative and fit for purpose. In addition, it aims to improve both the procedure for inputting data as well as the quality of data. The BMR is intended to protect consumers and investors by providing more transparency and compensation rights to those affected by the benchmarks, as well as a suitability assessment in certain situations.
The Board of Directors of the Hellenic Capital Market Commission at its 875th / 19.3.2020 meeting approved the application of the «Hellenic Exchanges - Athens Stock Exchange SA. (ATHEX) » to register ESMA on Benchmarks register the following benchmarks:

in accordance with Article 34 of Regulation (EU) 2016/1011 of the European Parliament and of the Council on benchmarks and on the basis of Commission Regulation (EU) 2018/1646 / 13.07.2018.
It is noted that out of all the indices calculated by the Athens Stock Exchange, only the indices «ATHEX General Price Index», «FTSE/ATHEX Large Cap Index», «Hellenic Corporate Bond Index» and «Hellenic Corporate Bond Price Index» fall within the scope and meet the requirements of the BMR regulatory framework and its delegated and implementing Regulations, and therefore qualify as benchmarks under the supervision of the Hellenic Capital Market Commission.
