Piraeus Bank announces that it has received an indication of interest from Standard Chartered PLC in respect of the potential acquisition of Piraeus Bank Egypt. Piraeus Bank also confirms that a request has been submitted to the Central Bank of Egypt so that due diligence can commence.  The discussions are also exploring a wider strategic relationship in the areas of trade finance, payments and project finance. There can be no certainty as to whether any agreement will be reached between Standard Chartered and Piraeus Bank. A further announcement will be made in due course as appropriate.
