The Romanian General Inspectorate for Communications and Information Technology (IGCTI) announced today the result of the selection process for the award of two 3G licenses in Romania. Even though COSMOTE has a unique experience in the successful rollout and operation of 3G technologies, with two 3G networks in Greece and Bulgaria, COSMOTE has not been awarded a license. COSMOTE submitted its bid with a view to maximizing the benefits to the Romanian consumers through an approach that would ensure the feasibility and actual realization of the project of providing 3G services in the Romanian market, as demonstrated by the record improvements todate in network coverage, as well as the financial resources and technical expertise of the COSMOTE Group.
COSMOTE Romania continues its fast rollout of its 2G and 2.5G networks, which will soon provide the Romanian population with full coverage, while maintaining the most competitive and value-for-money proposition. Since its launch in December 2005, COSMOTE Romania has focused its efforts on expanding network coverage, currently reaching over 90% of the population and more than 75% of the territory.
COSMOTE Romania will continue examining opportunities for developing innovative and advanced services in the Romanian market.
