According to the statements of the Minister of Trade and Industry of South Africa, the re-examination process of the shareholding structure of the applicants for the award of the new National Lottery License of South Africa, followed by the Minister after the decision of the competent court, will be concluded after the expiration on 31/03/07 of the current license. As a result the operation of the National Lottery will be stopped for a few days, since, as the Minister stated ''the current license (Uthingo) will expire at midnight and there is no legal basis to extend it in the present circumstances'', as already noted in a previous announcement by INTRALOT.
The president and CEO of Gidani, the consortium in which INTRALOT participates, stated ''Nevertheless, we confirm that we are ready in every respect, to commence running the national lottery anytime, and we have been so for a while. Gidani is now the only organization in the country with the resources and systems in place to operate the National Lottery''.
