A Remote Member can be connected to ATHEX through a point-to-point connection between the member's Point of Present (PoP) and the ATHEX Datacenter. This is done via leased lines (at least 2 lines; one primary and one back-up. The capacity of the lines should be at least 256 kbps and the preferred link technology is the Frame Relay, but the member could also choose a deferred technology such as a Clear channel link.

ATHEX provides the candidate Remote Member with all the necessary the technical specifications, the list of the network equipment that the member has to purchase and the proposed network diagram and then the candidate member proceeds to the ordering of the lines. The member can order the leased lines from one or more telecom providers of its choice.

The 2 edges of the lines have to be terminated to the ATHEX Datacenter and to the ATHEX hub which is located in the member's PoP. Hence, the member has to purchase some network equipments in order to build the ATHEX hub. This could be done with the help of the ATHEX Network Dept. After the hub is installed, it will be administrated by the ATHEX Network Dept only.

Because the delivery time of the leased lines is about 2 months and in order the candidate Remote Member to gain time during the testing sessions, ATHEX can send a router to the member free of charge, in order the member to be able to connect the ATHEX test trading system (test environment) via an ISDN connection. The ISDN call has to be initiated by the member's site.
