The General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT) approved a new research project coordinated by INFORM LYKOS on the subject "Concealing Data Techniques for the Secure Management of Medical Information". The project participants also include the Biomedical Engineering Laboratory of the National Technical University of Athens and MediaSec Technologies GmbH, a German company that is an international innovator in the field of digital watermarking for multimedia data. The project's total budget is 355,300 Euros.

The project's main purpose is the evaluation and exploitation of digital watermarking technology in the management of multimedia medical content. New techniques will be employed in defining characteristics for the effective content search and archiving, examining information integrity and authenticity, as well as inserting additional information within multimedia medical data. The new methods will be incorporated in several e-Health applications such as remote medical examination, remote collaboration in designing patient treatment based on X-ray examinations, archiving, search and administration of medical information.
A main project requirement is the combination of new digital watermarking methods with current security systems based on PKI, in order to provide an integrated solution for securing medical content.

This is a vital area where forgery effects increase radically. "The techniques which we will develop", says Mr. Andreas Tirakis, Group IT Director, "will also be used in the insertion of non visible information in conventional and digital printing. Of course in conventional printing the information will be static, thus limiting new functionality to assuring document authenticity. On the other hand digital printing?s extended capabilities make possible the use of hidden information for storing and retrieving additional document information."

INFORM P. LYKOS intends to exploit the know-how that will obtain in digital watermarking area in order to provide new solutions in the field of security printing and secure documents.
