OTE ANNOUNCES
TRAFFIC STATISTICS BY SERVICE FOR THE FIRST TIME
BASED ON ITS NEW MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM (MIS)
OTE hereby announces the initiation of operation of its new Management Information System (MIS) as of the beginning of this year. This system, among other things i.e. financials, has the capability to capture telecom traffic information from its exchanges (currently over 95% of them covered) and, thus, OTE is able to analyze the related traffic information by category of telecom service. It is the intent of OTE to release the associated information and data to the investor community on a quarterly basis starting with the Q1 2001 data that is presented below. The total number of calls generated in the OTE network during Q1 2001 is estimated at 2,779 million. The distribution of these calls to the different service categories is as follows:

From the above data it can be seen that fixed-to-fixed domestic voice traffic represents 81% of traffic on the OTE network with Local calls representing 90% of the above-mentioned traffic.Currently we are able to measure duration in terms of minutes from 50% of our exchanges. These exchanges are all over Greece and based on this information we estimate duration for the whole of our traffic. Call duration by service as well as the split of traffic minutes by service, is presented below:Currently we are able to measure duration in terms of minutes from 50% of our exchanges. These exchanges are all over Greece and based on this information we estimate duration for the whole of our traffic. Call duration by service as well as the split of traffic minutes by service, is presented below:Currently we are able to measure duration in terms of minutes from 50% of our exchanges. Call duration by service as well as the split of traffic minutes by service, is presented below:

As it can be seen fixed-to-mobile calls have a lower average call duration (1.1 mins) and, thus, although they represent 14% of the total number of calls they account for only 6% of traffic in terms of minutes logged. In reverse, the high average call duration of internet calls (21.7 mins) results in a 23% participation in terms of minutes logged even though internet related calls account for only 3% of the total number of calls in the OTE network. Monthly usage per line* can be seen in the following table:

*Note: The number of PSTN lines (excluding cardphones) and ISDN channels is used as of 31/12/2000 (PSTN 5,601,048 : ISDN 312,324)
From the above it can be seen that OTE's customers use more than 10 minutes per day per line on average their phones for conversation (voice).
OTE would like to take this opportunity and present you part of the results of our rebalancing effort based on the information from our MIS system and a number of assumptions1.Through the information from OTE's MIS system it is known that Local represents 90% of the Fixed-to-Fixed domestic traffic minutes and the remaining 10% is National Long Distance. Assuming the same split of traffic and using pricing information at different times over the past year, the revenue split between Local and National Long Distance can be calculated. For three points in time it is presented below:

From the above table it can be seen that revenues from Local calls has increased substantially over time and now represents 75% of Fixed to Fixed domestic voice traffic revenues. This increase has occurred at the expense of the part of National Long Distance. In addition to the above, the Fixed-to-Fixed average revenue per minute for the same periods in time can be calculated, as follows:

As it can be seen from the above Fixed-to-Fixed average revenue per minute is now slightly higher (+2.7%) than a year ago and is calculated at Drs.11.59 per minute. It should be mentioned that for these calculations the positive effect of charging per unit is not considered.
Note 1 Assumptions used for Fixed-to-Fixed domestic voice revenue split calculation:
1.Minutes split is considered constant for the different periods in time
2.Prices used are:

3.Peak / Off Peak split used is 85 / 15
4.National zone 1 / zone 2 split used is 40 / 60
5.The positive effect from unit charging is not considered. Per second charging is assumed for calculations
