Satisfactory sales growth rate and increase of investments to support new product launches
ELAIS - UNILEVER S.A. released the Full Year 2005 financial results prepared in accordance with the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
Despite the negative turn in 2005 for many consumer product markets in Greece, ELAIS - UNILEVER S.A. succeeded for a fourth consecutive year to manage an increase in sales. More specifically, sales amounted to Euro 226.4 mil. versus Euro 219.0 mil. in 2004, marking an increase of 3.4%. Gross profit for 2005 stood at Euro 93.4 mil. versus Euro 94.2 mil. in the respective period last year, posting a decrease of 0.8%. Respectively, the gross profit margin stood at 41.3% of sales versus 43.0% in 2004. Selling and marketing costs amounted to Euro 47.7 mil. versus Euro 46.3 mil. in 2004, in part reflecting the promotional support of the new innovations that the company launched in 2005. Profit before tax for 2005 amounted to Euro 36.1 mil. versus Euro 44.0 mil. in 2004 marking a y-o-y difference of Euro 7.9 mil. This change is largely due to the extraordinary income in the year 2004 from the indemnity of Euro 4.4 mil. related to the termination of the trade agreement regarding ready to drink Lipton ice tea, higher marketing and selling expenses in the year and increased product costs and raw material prices, specifically for olive oil. Following a company decision with a view to sustaining its strong market position, this cost increase was not fully reflected in end product prices. Finally, profit after tax for the year 2005 stood at Euro 23.4 mil. versus Euro 29.5 mil. in 2004.
Based on the abovementioned figures the management of ELAIS-UNILEVER S.A. will propose for approval to the General Shareholders Meeting the distribution of a dividend for 2005 of Euro 1.35 per share compared to Euro 1.30 per share in 2004.
In the financial year 2006, the company will continue to develop and promote new innovative products of high nutritional value, always within the framework of the modern nutritional needs of the Greek family. At the same time, the quality which characterizes ELAIS-UNILEVER products is a guarantee of the nutritional options offered to end consumers by the company in the past 85 years.
