The Alpha ETF FTSE Athex 20 Exchange-Traded Fund is scheduled to be listed on the Athens Exchange on January 24, 2008. This will be the first ETF on the Athens Exchange, and will track the FTSE Athex 20 Index, composed of 20 large-capitalisation stocks.

ETFs are index-tracking mutual funds that trade like stocks and track the return of a specific index. ETFs are essentially portfolios of securities that allow investors easy access to a particular market. At present, there are ETFs that track a significant number of stock indices globally, but also ETFs that track bond indices and other listed securities. ETFs have expanded globally on the interest of retail and institutional investors alike, and are used as a long-term investment vehicle just as well as for short-term trading.
The Alpha ETF FTSE Athex 20 will be available during regular trading hours on the Athens Exchange.
Through the new ETF, Alpha Bank reaffirms its leadership role in the Greek capital markets, while bringing innovative products to investors. Alpha Asset Management A.E.D.A.K., the management company of the ETF, is the largest institutional manager of domestic equities in Greece. In addition, the company has significant experience in passive management, as it was first to introduce in Greece in 1996 a passive, index-tracking fund, the Alpha Athens Index Fund. The new ETF is the latest in a series of innovative products that Alpha Asset Management A.E.D.A.K. has brought to the market, such as the Alpha Cosmos Stars Funds of Funds (open-architecture platform to access global markets through leading fund managers internationally) and the Alpha Defensive Strategy Fund series (mutual funds targeting 85% preservation of capital and gains on a daily basis). Alpha Asset Management A.E.D.A.K. has the experience and expertise to support the success of the first ETF in Greece.
