New 9,8 million USD contract and further expansion of INTRACOM Defense Electronics exports
Koropi, Greece 21 July 2008 - INTRACOM Defense Electronics, the largest defense electronics systems manufacturer in Greece, has signed a 9,8 million US Dollars contract with RAYTHEON for the manufacturing of electronic units for the RAM (Rolling Airframe Missile) surface-to-air missile system.
The RAM system, which is currently in use by the naval forces of five countries, is manufactured by RAYTHEON and RAMSYS and is a joint development effort of the USA and Germany. The RAM missile is designed to provide surface ships with an effective, lightweight, low cost and fast reaction self-defense cutting edge system, which will provide an improved capability to detect and defeat incoming antiship cruise missiles.
In the frame of the contract, which will be completed in about two years, INTRACOM Defense Electronics will manufacture the electronic systems of the infrared seeker of the missile's guidance section. For this purpose, the company will develop high technology automatic test stations, as well as special processes needed for the automatic assembly of the highly sophisticated electronic circuits. This significant industrial infrastructure and know-how that will be developed by INTRACOM Defense Electronics create excellent perspectives for further expansion of the cooperation beyond 2010, when significant contracts for the RAM system are expected.
With this agreement the long-lasting and successful cooperation as well the confidence to INTRACOM Defense Electronics is renewed by RAYTHEON, one of the largest and most recognised defense industries in the world, which has certified the Greek company for the manufacturing of high technology electronic systems.
