FRIGOGLASS receives product award for sustainable development
European Business Awards for the Environment 5 March 2009
Frigoglass, the world's leading manufacturer and solutions provider of commercial refrigeration equipment (Ice-Cold Merchandisers), announces today that it has received the 1st place in a product award for sustainable development at an event organized by the Greek Association of Environmental Protection Companies and the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises Council for Sustainable Development.
The European Business Awards for the environment have been institutionalized by the European Commission and aims to acknowledge Greek companies that have adopted practices and undertake initiatives that promote a healthier environment. The evaluation criteria have been developed by the European Commission and include product innovation and sustainability towards the environment, the society and the economy.
Frigoglass has set a market oriented strategy which aims at reducing the impact of its products in the environment. This strategy consists of three main pillars: 1) Natural cooling technologies, 2) Energy efficient management systems and 3) The design of products which are easy to recycle.
Within this strategic context Frigoglass, developed an environmentally friendly product - FV650 CO2 for which the award was received. The innovation of this product lies in its advanced technological elements as well as in the use of CO2 as a refrigerant, a natural substance with Global Warming Potential (GWP) equal to 1 while common refrigerants have GWP equal to 2.500.This unit also features energy saving controllers, commonly known as ?smart? electronic systems, reducing energy consumption more than 20%.
The pioneering FV650 CO2 is well on its way towards commercialization and had been placed during the Winter Olympics in Torino as well as in Austria and in Switzerland during Euro 2008.
Frigoglass is the market leader in commercial refrigeration with operations in 15 countries across four continents. The company's global market share in 2007 was 18.3% having notable market shares in Eastern Europe (45%), Western Europe (32%) and Africa (56%).
Frigoglass's target is to provide superior, bespoke Ice-Cold Merchandiser solutions which will support customer?s immediate consumption channel sales through new and innovative products. This includes the integration of appropriate technologies capable of evolving the product range towards efficient and environmentally friendly ICMs.
Frigoglass' customer base consists of The Coca Cola Company bottlers (Coca-Cola Hellenic, Coca-Cola Enterprises, Coca-Cola Amatil, CC Sabco), global brewers (Heineken, Carlsberg, SAB Miller, Inbev, Efes) and dairy companies (Nestle, Danone).
