A consortium comprising J&P-AVAX SA and Hitachi Power Europe signed a contract for the design & construction of power plant #5 at Vasilikon in Cyprus, with a total budget of euro 225.1 million.
The project pertains to the construction of a 220 MW power plant in two phases, the first of which involves the installation of two gas turbines / heat recovering steam generators with a total power of 150 MW within 24 months, the second phase involving the installation of a steam turbine for the balance of power in the next 6 months.
The new power plant will comprise two 6FA+E General Electric gas turbines each putting out 75 MW, as well as a 80 MW steam turbine utilising modern technology to recover the thermal energy generated by the two gas turbines, making use of either diesel fuel or natural gas.
J&P-AVAX SA constructed and recently commissioned power plant #4 at the same location for the Electricity Authority of Cyprus, of similar output and technical specifications to the new unit.
