Frigoglass nominated for the European Business Awards for the Environment 2010
Frigoglass, the world?s leading manufacturer of beverage coolers (Ice-Cold Merchandisers), announces today its nomination for the European Business Awards for the Environment 2010.Frigoglass is pleased to announce that it has been short listed together with nine other European companies from Austria, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Turkey and the UK for this year?s European Business Awards for the Environment. The 10 finalists were chosen from 141 entries from 24 EU and candidate countries. Companies had to succeed in national award schemes before being nominated by national award bodies for the European Business Awards. The prizes, awarded by the European Commission every two years, are directed towards European companies that have made outstanding contributions to sustainable development in any one of four categories - management, products, processes, and international cooperation.
In being nominated in the Product Award for Sustainable Development category, Frigoglass is recognized for its environmentally sustainable efforts such as the introduction of the Ecocool range of beverage coolers (ICMs) These units use natural substances that drastically reduce the impact of refrigerants on the environment. While conventional refrigerants have an average Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 1,300 over a period of 100 years these new cutting edge alternatives have a GWP of less than three. Additionally, all Ecocool units have active and passive energy conservation features that reduce power consumption by up to 50% versus current models.
The four winners will be announced at a ceremony on June, 2nd 2010 during the Green Week, the Commission's major annual environmental conference and exhibition event, in Brussels. The awards go to companies that spur economic growth by contributing to innovation and competitiveness while also protecting the environment.
Panos Giannopoulos Marketing Director at Frigoglass, commented: ?We are delighted to have been short-listed for the European Business Awards for the Environment 2010. This nomination highlights our commitment to the design and offer of products that provide solutions to the future needs of our customers, namely that of reducing the impact on the environment both in the terms of greenhouse emissions and energy consumption.
