Frigoglass: Runner up of the 2010 European Business Awards for the Environment in the Product Category
Frigoglass, the world?s leader in the beverage coolers (Ice-Cold Merchandisers) market, announces today that it has been distinguished amongst the top 3 companies in Europe for sustainable products for its Ecocool range at the European Business Awards for the Environment 2010. This distinction is awarded to companies that have developed a new product or service that makes an outstanding contribution to sustainable development.
Frigoglass was selected from 141 entries from 24 EU and other candidate countries. In order to qualify for the European Business Awards, companies had to succeed in national award schemes before being nominated by national award bodies. At the awards organised by the Greek Association of Environmental Protection Companies, Frigoglass won the second prize in the Product Award in the Sustainable Development Category for its Ecocool range of beverage coolers.
The prizes are awarded by the European Commission every two years to companies that have made outstanding contributions to sustainable development in any one of the following four categories: management, products, processes, and international cooperation. The winners were announced at a ceremony on 2nd June during Green Week, the Commission's major annual environmental conference and exhibition event, in Brussels. The awards were given to companies that boost economic growth by contributing to innovation and competitiveness whilst also protecting the environment.
Frigoglass was recognised amongst the top three companies in Europe for the Product Award in the Sustainable Development category, for the introduction of the Ecocool range of beverage coolers (ICMs). These units use natural refrigerants that significantly reduce the impact on the environment both in terms of greenhouse emissions and in terms of energy consumption. While conventional refrigerants have an average Global Warming Potential (GWP) of 1,300 over a period of 100 years, these new cutting-edge alternatives have a GWP of less than three. Additionally, all Ecocool units have active and passive energy conservation features that reduce power consumption by up to 50% compared to conventional models.
Panos Giannopoulos, Marketing Director of Frigoglass commented: ?We are very honoured to be recognized amongst the top three companies in Europe that have made outstanding contributions to sustainable development at the European Business Awards for the Environment 2010. The fact that Frigoglass has been distinguished among 141 entries from 24 EU and other candidate countries represents a major honor for which we are truly proud of. For Frigoglass, Sustainability remains a top priority and a continuous and long-term objective, and this award recognises our efforts on creating innovative, environmentally-friendly products that offer even more value to our beverage customers.?
