Press Release - 250MW TO BE CONTRIBUTED TO THE NATIONAL POWER SYSTEM MYTILINEOS Group to place 250 MW at the disposal of the HTSO during the heat wave

The MYTILINEOS Group, responding to the requests from the Ministry of Development, the Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) and the Hellenic Transmission System Operator (HTSO) to aid the operation of the national Power System during the heat weave, places at the disposal of the Transmission System Operator all of the 250 MW open-cycle configuration (2 GTs of 125MW each) of the Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Unit in Agios Nikolaos, Viotia.
In particular, the MYTILINEOS Group, in arrangement with the HTSO, modifies the unit's commissioning programme in order to support the System and help avoid load shedding and a potential general power blackout during the week from 07 to 11 July.
Following communications between MYTILINEOS Group and HTSO executives in charge of the dispatching of the unit, the commissioning programme of the Cogeneration Plant will be suitably modified for minimising any delays in the launch of the unit's full-scale commercial operation, scheduled to take place during August. The Unit's operation in the System is of major importance, as it will help reliably cover the continuously increasing annual peak demand for electrical power, especially during the summer months.
The contribution of the MYTILINEOS Group, which places the plant at the disposal of the HTSO's without receiving any additional compensation whatsoever for the capacity reserve made available, is fully aligned with the Group's commitments as a responsible corporate citizen, and is in contrast to the pointless and damaging delays caused by the reactions against the operation of this particular plant expressed by various interests, which have led the National System to its current critical condition from which only power importers stand to benefit.
Throughout the summer, and in close cooperation with the Transmission System Operator, the MYTILINEOS Group will assess the National System's power requirements and the possibility for the Cogeneration Plant under commissioning program to contribute to meeting these, when this is considered necessary.
